VP Radhakrishnan launches Constitution in regional languages and Hindi Legal Glossary

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan said that the Constitution of India derives its true strength when it reaches people in their own languages. He said this while addressing the Release of the Constitution in Gujarati and Tamil Languages as well as the 8th Edition of Legal Glossary from English to Hindi at Uprashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. He described the initiative as a significant step towards deepening constitutional awareness across diverse linguistic communities.

Mr Radhakrishnan also noted that Gujarati and Tamil are among country’s rich classical and cultural languages, carrying centuries of literary and intellectual tradition. He said that making the Constitution available in these languages would enable citizens to better understand their rights, duties and democratic responsibilities.

The vice President noted that the official translated version of the Constitution has been made available in Boro, Dogri, Santali and many other languages for the very first time. Talking about the Legal Glossary, he underlined that the glossary is not just a reference book but an instrument of empowerment because it will allow citizens to know the constitution in their mother tongue. Mr Radhakrishnan also highlighted that it will benefit the lawmakers, students, judicial officers, researchers, translators, and policymakers.

The Vice President noted that India’s linguistic diversity is a source of unity, not division.
