Vice President C P Radhakrishnan says Lord McFall’s visit reflects strong India-UK parliamentary ties

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan today met the Speaker of the UK House of Lords, Lord McFall of Alcluith, at Parliament House in New Delhi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) being hosted in India.

 

The Vice President said that the visit of Speaker Lord McFall of Alcluith reflects the strong parliamentary ties between India and the United Kingdom. Mr Radhakrishnan highlighted the shared democratic values of both countries, including commitment to the rule of law, parliamentary privilege, and effective oversight of the executive.

 

Emphasising responsible freedom of speech, the Vice President said it must not be misused for disruption in legislatures. He underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and supported greater exchange of delegations, joint training programmes, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. The Vice President also spoke about India’s digital initiatives in Parliament and expressed interest in learning from the UK’s experience in enhancing transparency and public engagement.
