Shijina Anoop, a distinguished artist from Kerala, India, has been honored with the prestigious Rabindra Ratna Puraskar 2026 by the Veyil Foundation, recognizing her remarkable contributions to the field of Performing Arts, with special emphasis on Indian Classical Dance. This accolade stands as a testament to her lifelong dedication to preserving, practicing, and promoting the rich traditions of Bharatanatyam.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in Performing Arts at MECF B.Ed College, Peringathoor, Shijina Anoop has successfully balanced the dual roles of educator and performer. Her professional journey reflects a deep-rooted commitment to cultural education, where teaching is not merely a profession but a mission to pass on an invaluable artistic legacy to future generations.

Shijina’s association with dance began at the tender age of three. Under the early guidance of her first mentors, Cheman Cheri Kunjiraman Master and Vasantha Thiruvangad, she developed a profound love for rhythm, expression, and classical aesthetics. These formative years laid a strong foundation for what would become a lifelong pursuit of excellence in Bharatanatyam.

Her academic credentials further reinforce her artistic depth. Shijina Anoop earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Bharatanatyam from Lasya College of Arts, equipping her with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the classical form. With a vision to nurture young talent, she founded Natyanjali Nrithalayam, a dance institution that has been shaping aspiring dancers for over 16 years. Through this institution, she has played a pivotal role in grooming students for Sub-District, District, and State Kalotsavams, helping them gain confidence, discipline, and a deep appreciation of India’s cultural heritage.

Beyond choreography and performance training, Shijina’s mentorship emphasizes cultural values, dedication, and artistic integrity. Her hands-on approach ensures that students not only excel on stage but also develop a lifelong respect for the traditions they represent.

Despite her achievements, Shijina Anoop remains a committed student of the art. She continues to refine her skills under the esteemed guidance of Manju V. Nair and Geeta Padmakumar, reflecting her belief that learning in classical arts is a continuous and evolving journey. This balance between learning and teaching defines her artistic philosophy and keeps her practice dynamic and relevant.

Through her tireless efforts as a performer, educator, and mentor, Shijina Anoop has emerged as a true ambassador of Bharatanatyam. The Rabindra Ratna Puraskar 2026 not only honors her individual accomplishments but also celebrates her enduring contribution to the preservation and propagation of Indian Classical Dance. Her journey continues to inspire countless students and art lovers, ensuring that this timeless tradition flourishes for generations to come.
